Nydia's Class Atmosphere:
Nydia is known for her Latin, Caribbean, and Afro-Cuban style
of dancing. Her unique teaching style combines Salsa, Puerto Rican,
Afro-Cuban and Brazilian Folklore dance; with contemporary Latin
dance style techniques to help “ground the students and
strengthen their relationship to the music. This ultimately improves
their personal dance style. It is here, during the styling portion
of the class that she instills the basic understanding of her
trademark to her students. Pointers are periodically given to
body movement and footwork that involve specific arm, eye and
shoulder placement. She incorporates lyrical and rhythmic combinations
designed to stretch and strengthen the body and develop its expressive
possibilities. She carefully demonstrates body technique and styling
that is applied to a variety of Latin music she progressively
uses in her class. It is here where she shows her students to
understand the role of each specified movement and positioning,
their relationship being masculine or feminine to the associated
music. She firmly suggests to whose leading the other on the dance
floor, to avoid using your partner as a "spinning prop"
and just dance. Nydia’s ultimate goal is to assist her students
to further develop not only their skills as Latin dancers but
also develop their appreciation to the Latin music and Artists.
